Graham Houghton has a winner here! This book is an easy cover-to-cover read, in contrast to most "user manuals" I've come across. Beautifully written, with clear explanations, and excellent choices of the most important details. What more to ask? It's easy to take good, even very good, photos with the Lumix FZ300. But it's more of a challenge to achieve the full potential of this complex machine. A careful read of Mr. Houghton's book will make us all experts. And he covers it all in less than 300 pages. My only suggestion for improvement would be a more comprehensive index.Product details

When setting the camera on Auto Mode, the quality of the photos was poor. It did not adjust for backlight as advertised. Also, the background in the pictures was not very sharp. I'm going back to my little pocket-sized Nikkon which takes pretty decent pictures, plus it's much easier to carry around.
One thing that I really did like about the Panasonic was that it has an electronic view finder. This was really useful when taking photos outside in the sunlight.
Very informative! I had a DMC-FZ20 before I bought the DMC-FZ300. It was a very large learning curve and this book helped me enormously.
Lots of good stuff about using this wonderful camera that you cannot get out of the difficult to read user manuals. Many thanks to the author for making this info available
I have read a number of books on photography particularly books on specific cameras. The amount of information in this book on a particular camera is astounding. The best part is that it is written in a style and language that most, if not all, camera users will understand. This book is a bible for that camera.
This reference volume is less than useful to me. It is full of facts, nice color illustration, but almost entirely bereft of organization. It's not until the third page of the "table of conents" that there's any grouping into topics or sub-topics. Mr. Houghton has assimilated and regurgitated the facts about the FZ300, but he has provided little help in providing a response to the reader's question. Moving along to the other end of the book, the index is just one page long, with about 70 index entries. I have yet to determine whether this volume adds any value at all to the manufacturer's user manual, as a problem-solving resource.
However, if you're fond of mystery stories, this may be the book for you.
It's probably the most comprehensive guide manual to help one navigate through the Lumix DMC-FZ300's complicated camera menus. Having said that....I did not find it an easy read-thru. I had to re-read everything and still there were many sections that I could not figure out. Obviously, the author is coming from a "professional photographer" point of view.....which I can appreciate, but that can also be quite daunting for us amateurs. Nevertheless, I do recommend this book if you don't know anything about the Lumix. You will learn enough to get you out there to shoot some nice stuff!
The reader of this review must first appreciate that there is virtually nothing else out there written in English for the FZ300, save for the Advanced User Manual which is superb. The problem is, that manual is typically found only online or with the CD supplied with the camera. For that reason, Graham Houghton's User Manual is wonderful, albeit not as valuable as his superb video tutorials on You Tube. It's very problematic to criticize any offering of Mr. Houghton, for he surely is THE Guru for Panasonic Bridge Cameras. The content is there and the content is accurate. I give this guide but three stars, however, because the editing and formatting are poor and the index woefully inadequate. If this guide were edited by one proficient in that task, and if the index were expanded to make it useable (in present form, it is not at all), this guide would likely be the model by which all other such treatises were judged.
